Product Information

ADM-F11 Antimicrobial Additive for Plastics & Polymers

ADM-F11 is a powdered antimicrobial additive for plastics and polymer systems based on N-(trichloromethylthio)phthalimide. It is designed to help control microbial and fungal growth in susceptible polymer formulations, including plasticized PVC, TPE, TPU, silicone sealants, and polymer-coated textiles. ADM-F11 can be incorporated during compounding, blending, or formulation to help protect polymer-based products against microbial-related deterioration, discoloration, and odor.

Product Description

ADM-F11 is a powdered antimicrobial additive based on N-(trichloromethylthio)phthalimide, designed for polymer systems that are susceptible to microbial and fungal growth.

Certain polymer formulations, particularly plasticized PVC, polyurethane, silicone sealants, and related systems, may be vulnerable to fungal attack. Microbial growth can contribute to surface discoloration, unpleasant odors, embrittlement, cracking, and other forms of material deterioration.

ADM-F11 helps control microorganisms associated with polymer degradation and can be incorporated during compounding, blending, or formulation to provide antimicrobial protection within susceptible polymer systems.

Applications & Uses

ADM-F11 is an antimicrobial additive for plastics and polymer systems, recommended for use in:

  • Calendered films, sheets, and extruded profiles
  • Molded polymer products
  • Polymer-coated textiles and fabrics
  • Silicone sealants and caulking compounds
  • Flexible PVC, TPE, TPU, and similar polymer systems

Important Restriction: ADM-F11 must not be used in applications involving contact with food or drinking water.

Key Features

  • Broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity
  • Compatible with a wide range of polymer formulations
  • Designed for low migration and good UV stability
  • Very low water solubility
  • Non-flammable and non-volatile
  • Metal-free formulation
  • Can be incorporated during compounding or blending

Formulation Guidelines

  • Calendered Films & Extruded Profiles: ADM-F11 can be added during compounding or blending of flexible PVC with other additives to promote uniform distribution throughout the polymer system.
  • Melt-Processed Polymers (Flexible PVC, TPE, TPU, etc.): Add ADM-F11 during compounding or blending stages to ensure even incorporation throughout the polymer matrix.
  • Coated Textiles: ADM-F11 can be added directly to the plastisol and mixed thoroughly to ensure uniform distribution of the biocide.
  • Silicone Sealants and Caulking Compounds: Can be incorporated into uncured sealant formulations.

Note: The active substance in ADM-F11 may undergo slow hydrolysis in water at lower temperatures and more rapid hydrolysis at elevated temperatures. Due to the wide variety of applications and processing methods, compatibility testing is recommended when developing new products. For further assistance, please contact our technical team.

Packaging

Packaging: 20 kg/drum

Processing & Safety Considerations

  • Conduct compatibility testing with the specific polymer formulation and other additives before commercial use.
  • Do not use ADM-F11 in applications involving contact with food or drinking water.
  • The active substance may hydrolyze in the presence of water, particularly at elevated temperatures.
  • Actual addition levels and processing conditions should be confirmed through laboratory evaluation and production trials.
  • Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and product label for handling, storage, health, and safety information.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which polymer systems is ADM-F11 compatible with?

ADM-F11 is designed for use in a range of polymer systems, including plasticized PVC, TPU, TPE, silicone sealants, and polymer-coated textile systems. Compatibility should be confirmed through small-scale testing with the specific formulation before commercial production.

What does ADM-F11 help protect against?

ADM-F11 is designed to help control microorganisms that may contribute to polymer degradation. Depending on the polymer system and application conditions, microbial growth can contribute to problems such as embrittlement, cracking, discoloration, unpleasant odors, and other forms of material deterioration. Actual performance should be confirmed through testing in the specific formulation.

Can ADM-F11 be used in food-contact applications?

No. ADM-F11 is not approved for use in applications involving contact with food or drinking water. If your application requires an antimicrobial solution suitable for a regulated food-contact application, please consult our technical team for alternative recommendations.

How should ADM-F11 be stored and what is its shelf life?

ADM-F11 should be stored in its original sealed container in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight and moisture. Under these conditions, its shelf life is 24 months from the date of manufacture. After opening, reseal the container tightly to prevent moisture uptake.
